Shining: Blackjazz (5/5)

Joshua's Top 10 "Metal" Picks for 2010
#2 of 10

Year: 2010
Genre: Progressive Blackjazz Metal
Label: Indie Records
TRT: 57:15

Shining has been borderline insane for years.

With Blackjazz...they've finally crossed over. This album is absolutely schizo (and how about that, they even covered an appropriate King Crimson song to celebrate). They've toyed with heavier sounds from time to time, but here they land in metal territory, if only on the outskirts. Their statement on this album is "what black metal is to metal, blackjazz is to jazz". It's dark, it's scary, it's completely fucked up, and it's out of control.

Embrace the chaos.
